AN ART THEATRE FOR EVERYONE
by Francesco Frongia

An art theatre for everyone. From the postwar period to our days, inspired by the Giorgio Strehler’s and Paolo Grassi’s Piccolo Teatro of Milan model, De Capitani recalls Teatro dell’Elfo’s history. Theatre as public service, to truly make the right to art, to culture, to generational turnover and knowledge transmission solid and accessible. A contemporary art theatre to understand how art is an essential and fundamental part of our identity, but also to understand that we don’t have to look at the past, but also at present and beyond: at future.

LOVE'S IMPERFECT NATURE
by Francesco Frongia

The video shows Fassbinder’s theatre repertory according to Elfo Theatre Company’s actors and directors. Thanks to archive’s pictures, artists are inspired to a deep reflection on their work. With Ferdinando Bruni, Elio De Capitani, Corinna Agustoni, Cristina Crippa, Ida Marinelli, Elena Russo Arman and Luca Toracca.

Elfo’s artists have delved into Fassbinder’s theatrical work since the late Eighties. They were first of all driven by passion, but on the other side they had a free and inventive overlook. The first Fassbinder’s play, staged by Bruni and De Capitani in 1998, was The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. Throughout a meticulous work on actors’ interpretation, the show highlighted the author’s value and originality as playwright. And from that moment the work of Elfo Theatre Company changed Italian scholars’ and directors’ critical line about Fassbinder’s theatrical work.
